Dancing Barefoot, Bridge School 2010

I saw Patti Smith last night at the Moore in Seattle, and as usual, she was glorious. That woman, she’s so much more kickass than I will ever hope to be, but she inspires.

She covered “Smells Like Teen Spirit” which was pretty powerful. And also “Beautiful Boy”, which made me weep. Literally.

She’s also pretty much the only person who doesn’t gross me out by spitting, which she does a lot when she sings.

Anyway, I’m on a Patti Smith kick, so thought I’d dig this out (though Patti’s is definitely better).

People Have the Power, Ed solo, Portland 2001

Just, so awesome. Again, with the props to MFSYNC172’s epic YouTube channel. Can’t go wrong with Patti Smith, and this is a great video with great sound.

So You Want to Be a Rock ‘N Roll Star, with the Fastbacks and Ben Harper, San Jose 1995

I had no idea Ben Harper toured with PJ as early as 1995. Cool. Neither the video or the sound is amazing here, but it still definitely counts as awesome.

Dancing Barefoot, Patti Smith with Ed & Johnny Depp, Voices for Justice 2010

In addition to my current Ed kick, I’ve had a particularly acute Patti Smith obsession for the last week. Here’s one of the highlights from the West Memphis 3 benefit – it doesn’t get much better than this. What. A. Voice. What a poet.

Also, Johnny Depp SO WANTS to be a rockstar, but he has much to learn. Good thing he’s got some pretty awesome teachers.
